Piano Tuner and Technician

I am a piano tuner and technician based in London. Having left my home on Dartmoor and completed a BA Hons in Music at Bath Spa University College, I came to study on the Piano Technology degree at London Metropolitan University.

After three years learning the practice and theory of tuning, rebuilding upright and grand pianos and learning in depth about the physics and acoustics of the instrument I graduated with a BSc Hons. I was also fortunate to be granted a year's apprenticeship as piano technician for the Guildhall College of Music and Drama, working under the guidance of head technician Malcolm Mackeand. 'The culmination of my training was to become a certified member of the nationwide Pianoforte Tuners' Association (MPTA), which is celebrating its' centennial this year.

Since completing formal training I have built my own business as a piano tuner and technician. I tune pianos at customer's homes, at commercial premises, recording studios, embassies and at concert venues. My work has taken me to customers as far afield as Nice and St Tropez, to such venues as the O2 arena, the Tower of London, the Gherkin, St James's Palace, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Opera House and on stage for various West End shows.

I travel everywhere possible by bicycle with all my tools and spare parts on board. This minimises my carbon footprint at the same time as allowing me to explore the city more thoroughly than most life-time residents would ever expect to.

Irrespective of the location, my passion for the instrument means that I will conduct my work to the best of my abilities and will always offer honest and enthusiastic advice on how to get the best out of your piano.

Details of the services I provide, as well as costs, can be found on my services page. To book an appointment or to discuss your requirements please contact me either by telephone, by email at patrick@psymespianos.co.uk, or via the contact page.
